Patna: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Union Minister Dr. C. P. Thakur on Saturday reiterated demand for reservation for poor people from upper castes saying it was not fair to exclude them just because they happened to have been born in an upper caste.

"A poor is a poor person regardless of his caste. It is not fair to millions of impoverished people who belong to upper caste. I commend the Gujarat government that just implemented 10% reservation for poor representing upper castes," Dr. Thakur said.

Former Chief Minister of Bihar Dr. Jagannath Mishra, whose party affiliation now remains vague after having been gradually sidelined by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, also echoed Dr. Thakur's sentiments saying the Gujarat Model had set an example for other states to emulate and Nitish Kumar should try to follow this example for the benefit of millions of not-so-privileged upper caste people in Bihar.
