Patna: Police in Patna busted a gang of ganja smugglers by carrying out city-wide raids and seizing over 50 kilogram of the contraband while arresting ten men in the case.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manu Maharaj, at a press conference in Patna on Monday, said raids were conducted in Digha, Danapur, Kurji, Rajiv Nagar, and Mainpura areas during which ten men were taken into custody.
Besides 50 kilogram of ganja with an estimated street price of Rs. 5 lakh, police also seized 15 cell phones and Rs. 18,000 in cash from their possession.
The SSP said that due to prohibition in the state, drug dealers had double or tripled the narcotics price by selling it in small pouches. He further said that there were estimated two dozen people in the gang and efforts were on to nab the remaining smugglers.
"The drug arrives through various channels to the diara area in Patna from where it is supplied from Delhi to Nepal. They are sold in small 50 gram and 100 gram pouches under various names like Nagin, Nagina, Madhosh etc and sold at Rs. 1000 apiece for a 100 gram packet, "the senior police officer said.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
