Patna: Slamming Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for trying to minimize the murder of a 20-year old youth in Gaya by the son of Janata Dal – U legislative council member Manorama Devi on Saturday night, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushil Kumar Modi said it was reckless for the Janata Dal – U chief to dismiss murders by saying no state was free from it.

"People of Bihar voted Nitish Kumar to improve situation in Bihar; not in Delhi or other states. What happens in other states is not our concern; our concern is only about safety and security of the people of Bihar. By saying that murder happens in other states, the Chief Minister has accepted defeat and essentially given up before the criminals," the former Deputy Chief Minister said in Patna on Monday.

In one of the harshest words in quite some time, Modi said that enough of Kumar's beating his own drums about how he introduced prohibition in Bihar.

"People have had enough about his prohibition and his national tour to pat his own back. He is going around the country and beating his own drum how great he is. It's time now to talk about crime in Bihar and how to keep crime under check. Nitish Kumar got elected by deceiving the people of Bihar who are no paying heavy price for electing him," Modi said.

Taking the Chief Minister to task, the BJP leader said that Nitish Kumar, like a broken record, keeps saying that no one can escape from the long hands of the law and if that was the case, why JD-U legislator Manorama Devi's son Rocky Yadav is yet to be apprehended two days after the murder was committed in Gaya?

"Rocky Yadav is roaming around free but Nitish Kumar has no concerns about it. Recently Congress legislator Vinay Verma who was arrested for violating the prohibition order walked out of the Shikarpur Jail and the government could not do anything. Notorious criminal Awadhesh Mandal was freed from the jail by a JD-U MP and Nitish Kumar did not say anything about it. Another party legislator Sarfaraz Alam who was accused of misbehaving with a woman was also freed from the jail without any trial. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) legislator and rapist Raj Ballabh Yadav stayed out of the grips of the police for more than a month before surrendering before the police. Police did not dare to arrest him. Gopal Mandal, another JD-U legislator told a DSP that he would throw him the Ganga is yet to face any charge. If this is not Jungle Raj then what is it?" Modi said.
