Gaya: A Gaya court on Thursday rejected the bail petition of Janata Dal – U MLC Manorama Devi in a case involving recovery of several bottles of liquor from her home during the hunt for her then absconding son Rocky Yadav, the alleged killer of 20-year old Aditya Sachdeva, the son of a businessman.

After a brief hearing, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Om Sagar rejected Manorama Devi's bail plea.

Her counsel had earlier pleaded that the JD-U leader never drank alcohol nor was caught by police drinking alcohol at the time of her arrest and therefore, should be freed on bail.

However, with the imposition of prohibition in Bihar and tough laws instituted by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Manorama Devi, who was booked under various Excise Acts when liquor bottles were recovered from her home, was denied a bail and would continue to remain in jail for 14 days under judicial custody.

Her son, Rocky Yadav, who was subsequently arrested from his hiding a few days after committing the crime, also remains in the jail along with his father Bindi Yadav, a well known name in the crime world in Gaya.
