Five Arrested in the Killing of Siwan Journalist

Patna: Police in Siwan and Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday arrested five men in connection with the murder of a Hindi daily journalist Rajdev Ranjan who was gunned down on May 13 near Siwan railway station.

Bihar Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Sunil Kumar, at a press conference in Patna on Wednesday, said the arrested men who were identified as Rohit Kumar, the gunman, Vijay Kumar, Rajesh Kumar, Vishu Kumar, and Sonu Gupta, had admitted of committing the crime at the behest of one Laddan Mian, a close associate of jailed criminal-turned-politician and former Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Mohammed Shahabuddin.

Laddan Mian had come out of Siwan jail on bail less than a fortnight ago, the ADGP said adding police had also recovered a 7.65 mm pistol from Sonu's house and three motorcycles that were used in committing the crime.

Attempts were being made to arrest Laddan Mian who left Siwan just hours after the killing of Ranjan, police said.
