Patna: Police in Patna on Tuesday arrested five criminals, including two women, in connection with the sudden surge in chain and bag snatching in the western section of the state capital and recovered cash, gold, and silver jewelries worth several lakh rupees.

Acting on a tip-off, the police identified the gang that had gathered in Rajiv Nagar to plan their next heist and made the arrests without any incident.

Authorities recovered five gold chains, one motorbike, and nine cell phones from their possession.

Police said the gang was active in Danapur, Rajiv Nagar, Kotwali, Rupaspur, Pataliputra Colony and other areas in the western section of the city.

Arrested persons were identified as Nitesh, Tipu, and Laddu, Ragini, and Runi Kumari.

Ragini told the police that they would ride on the backseat of the motorbike and target women who were elderly or with children to snatch their chains and other valuables.
