Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, at a function at Rabindra Bhawan in Patna on Monday, released a biography of Super 30 founder and noted mathematician Anand Kumar written by Canadian psychiatrist Biju Matthew in association with Arun Kumar, Robert Prince, and Radhika Marwah.
Named 'Super 30: Anand Kumar' and published by Penguin Random House India (English version) and Prabhat Prakashan (Hindi version), the book highlights the life, struggle, and achievements of Kumar that has been well-documented by a host of film-makers and news channels.
Calling Kumar the 'Face of Bihar', the Chief Minister said that it was remarkable that Anand, who is neither a politician nor a businessman, would take his simple idea of teaching poor students and prepare them for admission in IITs and turn it into a global phenomenon.
"He sacrificed his own higher education to share his knowledge with those who are economically disadvantaged. This is what Bihar is all about," he said.
The Chief Minister also took the opportunity to praise his own initiatives including giving free bicycles to girl students saying it had significantly raised the number of girls enrolling in schools.
Amidst a host of scandals in Bihar education involving cheating, Kumar said that now he would 'shift his focus on the quality of education' in Bihar.
In his speech, Kumar rubbished rumors of him seeking the Prime Minister's post saying it was a blatant lie perpetuated by his opponents who don't want to see him as a Prime Ministerial candidate in future.
"Some people are attempting to malign me so I do not ever desire to become a PM. However, I can tell you they are just wasting their time as I do not nurture the dream of becoming the Prime Minister," he said.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
