Patna: With education in Bihar, amidst growing scandal involving fake degrees and 'ToppersGate', in tatters, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday demanded criminal case lodged against several 'educationists' alleging massive irregularities in a number of schools and colleges in the state.

Former Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi, talking to media in Patna, demanded lodging of FIRs against officials at the Bhagalpur Agriculture University, Maulana Mazharul Haque Arabic and Persian University, and Sanskrit Shikhsa Board alleging huge bungling in the appointment of teachers and professors with money exchanging hands at the highest level.

"Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, in a knee jerk reaction to the topper scandal involving Bihar School Education Board (BSEB), has set up 'Operation Clean-up' to give impression of doing something to improve education in Bihar. However, this is just the tip of the iceberg as Bihar education is mired with many such scandals yet to be unearthed. Until actions are taken against top officials at these colleges, this whole Operation Clean-up is nothing more than eyewash to dupe the public," Modi said.

Meanwhile, Usha Sinha, former Janata Dal – U legislator and wife of the absconding BSEB Chairperson Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh, was removed as the Principal of Ganga Devi College in Kankarbagh in Patna after reports of her involvement in the topper scam surfaced on Monday.

Like her husband, Usha Sinha is also believed to have gone into hiding to evade arrest.

Earlier, reports said Sinha also obtained fake degrees based on fake birth certificate that makes her a matric graduate at the tender age of eight. Furthermore, going by her election affidavit, she completed her Masters in only one year and got a doctorate degree from Magadh University at the age of 23.
