Patna: Members of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in Patna on Friday took out a protest rally against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Daya Shankar Singh for making disparaging comments against party President and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati.

Led by BSP Bihar in-charge Tilakchand Ahirwar, party workers burnt the effigy of Singh who had since been removed from all party post and has gone underground amidst threat on his and his family members' lives.

He also faces suspension from the party for a period of six years.

Former UP minister K. K. Gautam, Dr. Lalji Medhkar, state party President Bharat Bind were among those who participated in the effigy burning in Patna.

As reported, Singh, during a function in his honor in Mau on July 20, compared former UP Chief Minister Mayawati to a prostitute 'for selling party tickets' (to the highest bidders) that, he said, had forced the followers of Kanshi Ram to desert her.

Singh's statement was widely criticized by all, including his own party members. Senior leader and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley personally apologized to Mayawati saying such language had no place in the Indian politics and assured her of taking proper steps against Singh who, he said, had maligned the party.
