Patna: Speaking at a convention of 'Teli' caste in Patna on Saturday, Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das slammed Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for trying to gain political mileage by peddling his prohibition idea in states run by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

{gallery}newsimages2016/jul/072316{/gallery}"For decades, Nitish Kumar did everything to turn the majority of the population in Bihar into alcoholics. Now he is acting like a saint and promoting ban on liquor to gain political advantage in states being run by the BJP," the Jharkhand Chief Minister said.

Questioning his motive in imposing ban in Bihar, Das said that it was a well-known fact that liquor was flowing in Bihar by importing from West Bengal but Nitish Kumar was not asking Mamata Banerjee to impose prohibition in her state.

"Why is that the Bihar Chief Minister demanding from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to enforce prohibition in states being run by the BJP but he has made no attempt to do the same from the West Bengal government? The answer is, Nitish Kumar is using prohibition as a political tool to gain mileage and not because he is genuinely concerned about the ills of alcohol including domestic violence and poverty," he said.

Continuing his assault on his Bihar counterpart, Das said that since the imposition of ban of sales and consumption of alcoholic beverages in Bihar, more and more people were turning to other contrabands like ganja to satisfy their urge.

"For him, all problems have only one solution – prohibition. We, on the other hand, believe problems of our states can only be solved through development. This whole prohibition thing is nothing but a 'nautanki' (drama) designed to fool the people and gain political advantage," he said.

Senior BJP leaders like Mangal Pandey, Sushil Kumar Modi, and Prem Kumar were also present at the function at the Sri Krishna Memorial Hall.
