Patna: Police in Patna on Monday recovered the body of a 27-year old woman believed to have been murdered by her husband and in-laws due to an ongoing dispute over dowry.

{gallery}newsimages2016/jul/072516{/gallery}The bloodied body of Charulata Mauar, the wife of Mrityunjay Dev and a Probationary Officer at Bank of Baroda, Boring Road branch, was recovered from a room near the main gate of the house located on Kanti Factory Road under Patrakar Nagar police station.

Her legs were tied and it appeared she was killed in the main house and then her body dragged to the outside room to hide it long enough to allow her killers to disappear.

As reported, Charulata's family members who live in Sultanganj in Patna City, after having failed to contact her since last Friday, rushed to her in-laws home in Patrakar Nagar only to find the house locked from outside. However, there was a stench in the air that indicated there was a dead body nearby.

With the help of the neighbors, the door of the room near the gate was broken where the rotting body of Charulata was found hidden behind two motorcycles.

According to police, it appeared Charulata had been dead for the last three days.

The victim's husband, father-in-law Anil Kumar, mother-in-law Chanchala Devi, and brother-in-law Surya Prakash, to avoid arrest, have apparently gone into hiding.

Charulata's two-and-a-half year old son is also missing.

Her mother Sarita Mauar, uncle Arvind Mauar and other family members told the police that Charulata was constantly being harassed by her in-laws despite being given a large dowry during their wedding in 2010. They also told the police that she was being tortured and made to starve even though she was the only bread-earner in the family. A medicine shop being run by her husband had been shut down several months ago thus the entire family had been relying on the earnings of Charulata.

Attempts are being made to arrest the killer family, Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manu Maharaj said.
