Patna: Police in Patna on Friday rescued three girls aged between 13 and 17 while busting a prostitution ring run by a woman who was arrested following the raid.
Based on a tip-off, police raided a house in Ram Krishna Nagar under Jakkanpur police station and arrested one Priyanka Devi on charges of running a brothel and engaging in human trafficking. They also took three under-age girls in custody who were reported missing more than two weeks ago by their parents in Katihar, Pandarak, and Akilpur.
The girls told the police that they were led to believe they were being taken to Patna to prepare for some exams that would be beneficial in obtaining a job. However, they were brought to Priyanka Devi's home where her lover routinely used them to satisfy his sex drive while also supplying them to other paying customers.
"Whenever we talked about going back to our homes, we were beaten up and threatened to be killed," said one of the girls.
Priyanka Devi, though married to one Arvind Kumar, had been estranged from her husband for last several years, police said.
One of the girls was recently sold to a customer in Purnia for a price of Rs. 1 lakh but she somehow managed to escape. She took a bus back to Patna where she contacted the local police and informed them of Priyanka Devi's illegal operation.
More arrests are expected to be made in the case, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manu Maharaj said.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
