Patna: Two students were hurt when they tried to escape from Saidpur Hostel in Patna on Saturday night during a police raid following a violent week at Patna University's Darbhanga House where rival gang members clashed with each other in the ongoing war of attrition.

As reported, a team of police representing four different police stations raided the notorious Saidpur Hostel following reports of some criminals staying there. Seeing a large number of cops in uniform, those staying at the hostel ran in all directions during which two students fell down the stairs breaking their hand and a leg.

The injured students were identified as Mukesh Kumar and Bajrangi Singh and were rushed to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for treatment but were later to a private nursing home.

Ten other students were said to have received minor injuries and were rushed to nearby private hospitals where they were given first aid and released. Four occupants of the hostel were taken into custody, police said.

Students accused the police of targeting students based on their caste – an allegation denied by the police.

Angered by the raid, dozens of students blocked the road near Bahadurpur Gumti demanding suspension of the cops involved in tonight's raid.

Sensing the gravity of the situation, the administration sent anti-riot vehicles at the troubled site to keep things under control. Senior police officials were camping in the area to monitor the situation.
