Patna: Nearly a month after she was arrested, a judge in Patna on Monday granted bail to Ruby Rai, the fake Intermediate Arts topper who became the youngest pawn in the high-staked game of the pervasive Bihar education mafia despite claims of improvement in education by none other than Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Rai, who was arrested and sent to Beur Jail in Patna because her age could not be verified at the time the much-publicized 'ToppersGate' blew in the face of the state government, was later shifted to a juvenile delinquent home after her matric certificate confirmed her being of underage.

Parvez Alam, the Additional District Judge (ADJ) of the Juvenile Court, after hearing plea from Rai's attorney K. D. Mishra, granted bail to Ruby Rai who, in her defense, had told the police that all she had asked her father to get her passed in the Inter exams with second division but her father went out of his way to bribe too much money to the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) officials who made her the topper in the state.

Mishra, who represents the 'Prayas Juvenile Aid Center', had argued that locking up Ruby Rai in jail would serve no purpose because she was not the criminal but the victim of a crime and would be better off at a home under adult supervision.
