Raid at Beur Jail Ahead of Independence Day Celebration

Patna: A team of over 150 policemen in Patna led by a number of senior police officers on Friday carried out an early morning raid of the Beur Jail and recovered several prohibited items though the recovery was nowhere close to what the law enforcement officials had anticipated.

Starting before the sunrise, dozens of vehicles carrying more than 150 cops swooped down on the high security prison that currently lodges some very high profile prisoners including notorious criminal and Janata Dal – U legislator Anant Singh, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) legislator and dreaded criminal Reetlal Yadav with several murders under his belt, former RJD MP Vijay Krishna, disgraced Bihar School Examination Board chairperson Lalkeshwar Singh, his wife Usha Sinha, and his partner in crime Bachcha Rai along with a number of high-profile domestic terrorists.

The police found a phone charger, a card reader, an air phone, and a small amount of ganja from various prison wards.

The raid that began at 4:00 am and continued till 7:00 am was carried out ahead of the Independence Day celebration to be held at Patna's Gandhi Maidan on August 15, City Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manu Maharaj said.

Policemen from Patna, Phulwarishari, Beur, Janipur, Airport, Jakkanpur, and Gardanibagh police stations took part in today's raid.
