Patna: Two days after criminals in Patna gunned down a homeopathic doctor, police on Sunday arrested one man in the case who, they said, had admitted of taking part in the murder of Dr. Afzal Ali in his confessional statement.
Ali, 55, was chased and shot three times in Digha last Friday. He ran a clinic in the area and was also associated with the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) in Danapur.
A special investigation team (SIT) arrested one Shambhu Kumar from his residence in Digha who said he and one of his associates decided to kill the doctor due to personal enmity and not because of extortion motivation.
"We were renting a place from Dr. Ali to run our shop dealing with electrical equipment. However, the doctor sealed the shop because we were behind in our rent. He also refused to pay us Rs. 10,000 that he had promised to us for helping him sell his car. When our repeated request to unlock our shop went unheeded, we decided to kill the doctor," Shambhu told the police.
Police has recovered a country-made pistol from Shambhu's home that could be the gun used in the killing of Dr. Ali.
Officials said another man who was identified as Manoj was being sought in the case.
