Patna: The ongoing saga of criminal-turned-politician Mohammed Shahabuddin further thickened on Wednesday when a picture of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav's elder son and Bihar Health Minister Tej Pratap Yadav appeared on social media in which he is shown standing next to the alleged killer of Siwan journalist Rajdev Ranjan.
In the picture Tej Pratap Yadav is seen with Mohammed Kaif who is believed to be the gunman who shot and killed Ranjan on May 13 earlier this year. Kaif, a close associate of the former RJD MP from Siwan, is said to have been hired by Shahabuddin to eliminate the journalist who had written some very scathing report about the RJD leader who was released on bail last Saturday.
The same Kaif was also spotted leading the motorcade of Shahabuddin upon his release from the Bhagalpur jail, reports said.
Denying his association with Shahabuddin, Kaif sent a message to a news agency saying he was a cricketer and had nothing to with the journalist's murder.
Meanwhile, the RJD has gone in a damage control mode to defend the Health Minister socializing with a killer.
"We don't know if the image is real or doctored. At this time, we have nothing to say except that Tej Pratap Yadav has nothing to do with Kaif," said an RJD spokesperson.
In a related development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday announced its decision investigate the murder of Rajdev Ranjan. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, under tremendous pressure from the opposition, had recommended the case to the CBI on May 16.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
