Patna: Rabindra Parishad in Patna on Wednesday observed the death anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, the 'Bard of Bengal' and a Nobel laureate, by organizing an evening of classical dance and music based on the songs and plays of the Gurudev himself at the recently-renovated Rabindra Bhawan auditorium on Birchand Patel Marg.

On the occasion, students and teachers of Geeta Bhawan, the music department of the Rabindra Parishad, performed exquisite dance and songs in a homage to the poet and novelist who left indelible marks on the Bengali literature and culture that continues to influence artists from across the world 76 years after his death.

Chief guest and former Magadh Mahila College Principal Mala Ghosh narrated the history of the beginning of Rabindra Parishad in Patna and how it grew to be a major cultural center that included addition of Geeta Bhawan, the music wing of the institution that boasts an enrollment of 450 students, and substantial change in the building that today boasts a capacity of 1000 audience offering the best in theater in the state capital.

Rabindra Parishad President Shyama Prasad Mukherjee also gave a brief history of the facility and its connection with Visva Bharati University, also known as Shanti Niketan, established by Tagore in 1921.
