Patna: Deputy Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushil Kumar Modi and Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) Chairperson V K Saxena jointly kicked off the 47th National Junior Boys' Chess Championship and 32nd National Junior Girls' Chess Championship at the Pataliputra Sports Complex in Patna on Sunday.

Sushil Modi at the inaugural of national boys and girls chess tournament in Patna on Sunday.Altogether 196 boys and girls representing 26 states are taking part in the competition that concludes on September 11, Convener of the program Naveen Upadhayay, who also welcomed the guests and the players, said.

On Monday, nine players including top-seeded Nubair Shah Sheikh of Maharashtra, Kumar Gaurav of Bihar, Karthik Venkatraman and Harsha Bharatkoti of Andhra Pradesh, Agni Jivitesh of Telangana, Siddhant Mahapatra of Orissa, Harshal Shahi of Delhi, Jeet Jain of Rajasthan, M Guha of West Bengal shared the top place.

In the Girls category, WIM Tejaswini Sagar of Gujarat, V Varshini of Tamil Nadu, Bommini Mounika of Andhra Pradesh, Tejaswinin Sagar of Gujarat and eleven others shared the top place at the end of day one with two points each.
