Patna: Yet another attempt by the district administration to rid Patna from illegal construction and encroachment followed by yet another clash between the police and the protestors that has become a monthly, if not weekly, feature - took place on Monday as the busy Boring Road became a battle-zone just a week after the violent clash between the law enforcement officials and the encroachers in Ashiana Nagar-Digha Road on June 6 that left dozens injured.

At least half a dozen protestors were injured when police resorted to lathi charge in an attempt to allow district administration to demolish illegal construction on Boring Road.

Acting on a court order, the administration began destroying several roadside food-stalls and sidewalk shops at around 1:00 pm thus raising the ire of the street vendors. Unfazed by the show of force, protestors began pelting stones, bricks and other objects on the law enforcement officials. They also attacked heavy machinery operators who had to abandon their tools and run away to evade injuries.

As the battle continued, rioters damaged more than a dozen cars. Several innocent bystanders and passers-by were also hurt in the incident.

The situation was brought under control only after the administration brought in anti-riot gears and threatened to open firing on the unruly mob.

The police have filed FIRs against two dozen people most of whom have been identified, Sri Krishna Puri police station in-charge said.
