Patna: Police in Patna on Monday arrested eight men in connection with the killing of a movie theater owner in Bihta who was gunned down by motorcycle-borne criminals outside the cinema hall last Friday.

Addressing reporters' questions, Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manu Maharaj said that the killing of Nirbhay Singh, the owner of the Uday Chitra Mandir cinema hall, was carried out by professional killers hired by one Akshay Kumar a.k.a. Golu to avenge the murder of his father last year and the insult of his mother in the hands of Nirbhay Singh.

"Akshay's father, who had borrowed Rs. 6 lakh in loan from the cinema hall owner, was murdered in Bihta on August 17, 2006. After that, Nirbhay continued to build pressure on Akshay' mother to get his money back. A few days ago, Nirbhay went to Akshay's house demanding the return of his money. In the process, he allegedly misbehaved with his mother that led to his decision to get revenge from him," the SSP said.

Akshay then got in touch with a bikers' gang that goes by the name of 'Mahakaal' gang led by one Amit Kumar. Akshay paid Rs. 2 lakh to Amit to kill Nirbhay Singh.

"As planned, Amit and his gang arrived at the movie theater on Friday evening where Nirbhay Singh was standing at the main door. The criminals opened indiscriminate fire at him killing him on the spot," Maharaj said.

Police have seized four country-made pistols, six cartridges, and four motorcycles along with several cell phones from the criminals' possession.

Though the kingpin of the so-called Mahakaal gang Amit Kumar managed to escape, police arrested Akshay Kumar, Vikki Kumar, Shivam, Ravi Sarkar, Manish Kumar, Ravi Singh, Vipul Kumar, and Chandan Kumar.

"The arrested men were identified through several surveillance videos gathered from the crime scene," the SSP said.
