Araria: Former Central Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP from Araria Mohammed Taslimuddin, who died after a brief illness at a Chennai hospital last Saturday, was given a state funeral at his native village of Sisauna in Araria district on Tuesday in the presence of over 50,000 people.

Namaz in Araria in honor of Mohammed Taslimuddin.Among the leaders present at the Digghi cemetery where Taslimuddin was laid to rest with full state honors included Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Abdul Bari Siddiqui, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shahnawaz Hussain, Janata Dal – U leader and Rural Development Minister of Bihar Shrawan Kumar, and many others.

Before the cremation, more than a lakh people took part in the namaz held at the local madarsa ground. According to reports, this was the largest crowd ever gathered in the district in honor of a politician who had passed away.

Earlier, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav visited Araria and met with the family members to express his grief over the passing away of a loyal party leader.

Known for his rather blunt comments, just weeks before his death, Taslimuddin had said that while one of the sons of Lalu Prasad Yadav was mentally challenged, the smart one was framed on corruption charges by BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi.

He, in the wake of the collapse of the Grand Alliance in Bihar, had also described Nitish Kumar as a man who would betray anyone to achieve his political ambitions.
