Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) legislator and party general secretary Mundrika Singh Yadav passed away at a private hospital in Patna on Tuesday at age 74 following a brain hemorrhage, family members said.
Yadav was earlier rushed to the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) after he collapsed in his bathroom on Monday morning with blood coming out of his head. He was then taken to the Paras hospital where he was kept in a ventilator overnight.
Family members said the RJD leader was suffering from dengue fever for the past few days. His condition, however, worsened in the past few days. His family was planning to fly him to Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) but due to the hemorrhage, doctors advised against it.
Yadav, an MLA from Jehanabad, is survived by his wife, four sons and a daughter.
RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav described Mundrika Singh Yadav's death as a personal loss to him. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi also described him as a 'veteran socialist leader' and called his death a 'great loss to the state'.
The Nitish administration has announced a state funeral for the RJD leader.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
