Patna: Just days after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar delivered a strong populist speech at the Hajipur Jail where he inaugurated a host of schemes for the welfare of the prisoners, Development Commissioner Anand Kishore on Monday visited the Beur Central Jail in Patna to review the current security details to ensure prisoners were not able to escape by breaching the existing system.

After taking a tour of the prison both inside and outside of the massive penitentiary in the state capital, Kishore suggested raising the wall around the main building by three feet capped by electric fencing to make jail breaking almost impossible.

Kishore, who is also the Inspector-General of the jail, directed the jail superintendent to raise the number of closed circuit cameras inside and outside the prison from the current 32 to 100 to monitor activities of inmates at all times.

To keep a close tab on the prisoners, Kishore directed the jail officials to get phone numbers of the close relatives of all prisoners along with the numbers of their doctors and lawyers and get it verified by the local police stations and phone companies.

The Prison IG further instructed the jail officials to speed up work on the new dining and visitor halls and finish them up by the end of this year.
