Patna: Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) members celebrated the impending election of Rahul Gandhi as the national President of the Congress Party by 'feeding' sweets to the picture of their new leader at the Sadaqat Ashram in Patna on Monday.
Led by BPCC President Kaukab Qadri, Congress leaders, workers, and supporters blasted firecrackers, applied 'abir' to each other, and shared sweets before a large picture of Gandhi who is all set to take over the party as its national chief after his mother Sonia Gandhi, who has occupied the top post since 1998, announced her decision to step down from her post.
"We had been waiting for this day for quite some time and now it's just a matter of a few weeks before Mr. Gandhi, a youth icon with a lot of promise, will lead this nation to heights not attained before," Qadri said.
The long-anticipated coronation of 47-year old Rahul Gandhi is expected to take place on December 4, just days before Gujarat Assembly polls that begins on December 9. He currently holds the post of party's national Vice President.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
