Patna: Despite early threat of violence and promise to disrupt his wedding in the presence of all the guests by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tej Pratap Yadav, the wedding of the son of Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, Utkarsh, was solemnized peacefully with Yamini, a Kolkata-based Chartered Accountant, on Sunday, in the presence of a number of politicians and family members, including Lalu Prasad Yadav, the father of the man who made threat to the BJP leader.

{gallery}newsimages2017/dec/120317_1{/gallery}The wedding ceremony, devoid of any pomp and show to send a message to the people of Bihar, took place at the Veterinary College field where Union Ministers Arun Jaitley, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Ram Vilas Paswan, Dharmendra Pradhan, Giriraj Singh, Bihar Governor Satyapal Mallik, Goa Governor Mridula Sinha, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar, and Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das were among many who were present at the event.

Shunning political enmity for a few hours, the RJD chief arrived alone to grace the occasion as media personnel jostled to grab pictures of him while hoping to grab a sound bite in the process.

Yadav handed an envelope to the newly-wed couple as Utkarsh and Yamini touched the feet of the former Chief Minister of Bihar to seek his blessings.

The RJD chief shook hand with Modi and other guests including the firebrand Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and Union Ministers Ravi Shankar Prasad and Giriraj Singh.

The wedding was kept very simple with instruction to guests not to bring any gift. As reported, the Deputy Chief Minister wanted to set an example for all to emulate by not taking anything in dowry and urging guests to sign up for organ donation at a table set just for that purpose.

For two hours, a team of priests performed the rituals after which guests were treated with sweets and cold drinks. There was no band or fireworks after the wedding was complete.

While the newly-weds sought blessings of all politicians as they sat in their chair, Sushil Kumar Modi invited Lalu Prasad Yadav, former Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra and Jitan Ram Manjhi, also an ex-Chief Minister of Bihar, on the wedding stage to bless his son and his daughter-in-law.

Other guests included BJP leader Dharmendra Pradhan, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, West Bengal Governor Kesarinath Tripathi, Meghalaya Governor Ganga Prasad, Union Ministers Radha Mohan Singh and Ram Kripal Yadav, Bihar Speaker Vijay Kumar Chowdhary, Bihar Legislative Council Deputy Chairperson Haroon Rashid, BJP state President Nityanand Rai, Janata Dal – U state President Vashisht Narayan Singh and other Cabinet ministers and legislators.
