Patna: Patna's premier women's college, Magadh Mahila College, cracking whip on its students, announced its decision to ban wearing of jeans, jeggings (skin-tight denim jeans), and Patiala Suits within the college campus.
The new dress code goes into effect from January 2018.
The college has also put a ban on the use of cell phones except for in certain designated areas, school principal Dr. Shashi Sharma said.
Violators of the new cell phone rules will be fined Rs. 1000 for each offense.
Talking to the reporters, Dr. Sharma said the dress code was suggested by none other than the students themselves in order to maintain uniformity in the campus.
Justifying the dress policy, the Principal said that while Muslims students followed the conservative dress code as they have always done, it were the Hindu students who were wearing designer's clothing causing embarrassment to many people.
Determined to keep the college away from the influence of western civilization and culture, Dr. Sharma said that Magadh Mahila College was not a modern college and she would like to keep it that way.
"We are very traditional in our thinking and approach and are far away from modern thinking. It will take us 50 years to get there," she said.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
