Patna: A Special Investigating Team (SIT) of the Railway Police in Patna on Friday busted the December 18 train robbery case in Buddha Purnima Express wide open following the arrest of seven criminals - all under the age of 30.
The robbers were identified as 21-year old Sintu, Sudhir, and Shashi, 23-year old Bunty, 24-year old Abhishek, Satyendra, and Amarjeet – all residents of Patna district under Salimpur and Bihta police stations.
An eighth accused in the case Sunil is said to have gone into hiding, police said.
Police recovered two pistols, one knife, 12 cell phones and Rs. 820 from the possession of the criminals.
As reported, the eight men entered into the Buddha Purnima Express going from Rajgir to Varanasi on December 18 and robbed the passengers at gun and knife points of their valuables to the tune of several lakh rupees. When a man showed reluctance in parting with his valuables, he was stabbed by one of the criminals.
After cleaning up the compartment, the robbers then got off the train by pulling the chain near Karnauti station.
A case was registered with the railway police at Bakhtiarpur railway station. Shortly after that, the Railway SP had suspended Biharsharif Railway police station in-charge along with four members of the train escort team.
