Patna: Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, talking to reporters after his weekly 'janata durbar' in Patna on Tuesday, said that the Lalu family was finished in Bihar as it stood exposed thanks to the criminal bent of its leaders' minds.
"Lalu Prasad Yadav is a habitual criminal who is used to the prison life. Even after being convicted in the fodder scam, he failed to learn any lesson and instead went on to amass properties illegally to the tune of about Rs. 1000 crore. Going by the mountain of evidence against him, he should be put away for a very long time," the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said.
Modi said that while it was the job of the court to punish or exonerate an accused, the attempt by the members of the Lalu family to taint the court on caste basis was ridiculous.
"The court, when deciding one's guilt or while determining the quantum of punishment for a convicted criminal does not take into account the person's caste. Playing the caste card is an old ploy by the Lalu family whenever things don't go its way but it is not going to work any longer. People of Bihar are very matured and are not going to fall for his flimflam ever again," he said.
The Deputy Chief Minister further said that the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief kept the people of Bihar in dark for 15 long years. "He thought people will always be with the lantern but he should know that the age of lantern in Bihar is over for good. Perhaps it's time, Lalu Prasad changed his party's election symbol from lantern to LED bulb," he said.
It may be recalled that Yadav, after being found guilty in an offshoot of fodder scam, remains in a prison in Ranchi awaiting punishment that would be announced sometime on Wednesday.
Yadav's son and former Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Yadav, senior party leader Raghuvansh Prasad Singh and many other party leaders left for Ranchi on Tuesday to provide moral support to the embattled leader when the court announces the quantum of punishment to him.
His wife and former Chief Minister of Bihar Rabri Devi has chosen to stay back in Patna when the punishment is announced.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
