Patna: Just hours after Patna University announced the date for the next students' union election, police recovered a large cache of low-intensity bombs and bomb-making paraphernalia from behind Iqbal Hostel at Patna College on Wednesday.
As reported, Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manu Maharaj, suspecting anti-social elements preparing to disrupt campaign and other election process, ordered a complete sweep of all hostels and areas around it.
When a team of Pirbahore police, while searching rooms in Iqbal Hostel, went behind the building, the bomb-sniffing dogs led them to a bush where police found low-intensity bombs, firecrackers, explosives, and other bomb-making elements.
Since there are no surveillance cameras in the vicinity, authorities remain in dark as to who hid these items behind the hostel building.
The SSP said that between now and the announcement of election results, police would carry out similar raids at all Patna University hostels to make sure elections are held in a free and fair manner with no room for any kind of violence.
Earlier, Patna University announced its decision to hold the student union election on February 17.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
