Patna: Locals on Jagdeo Path in Patna on Saturday morning created ruckus to protest assault against a man late Friday evening on Ashiana-Digha Road leaving him in a serious condition.

Hundreds of protestors, demanding check on ever-increasing crime in the state capital, blocked Jagdeo Path causing a major road jam for more than an hour.

When the police tried to remove the blockade, protestors attacked them with bricks, rocks, and other objects and set sign posts on fire. They also destroyed the traffic post Realizing they were easily outnumbered, they called for backups and soon the anti-riot team along with Vajra, the anti-riot vehicle, arrived at the scene to bring the situation under control.

Only after police assured them of catching the criminals within next 48 hours, the road block was removed and traffic was allowed to move again.

Residents of the area complained about growing incidents of crime in their neighborhood saying the notorious bikers' gang was responsible for last night attack on one Diwakar who nearly died after being beaten up brutally by them.

"The gang is based in Samanpura and is known for committing crime on Jagdeo Path and Phulwari Sharif areas. Meanwhile, police never do anything about it and we are tired of their failure to catch them," the protestors said.
