Patna: Govinda, one of the biggest movie stars of the '80s and '90s who acted in more than 150 films playing an assortment of roles from a typical Bollywood 'dance and song' hero to a villain, was in Patna on Sunday to inaugurate the opening of the Junior DPS Playschool in Rajiv Nagar.
As soon as the car carrying Govinda arrived in Rajiv Nagar, thousands of his fans mobbed his vehicle to get a look of the star. Some even climbed atop nearby trees to get a better view of the actor-turned-politician-turned-actor again.
Speaking at the function, the actor reminded young kids that after their parents, it was their teachers who were akin to Gods and therefore, must be respected and revered as other Gods. He also stressed the importance of quality education from the very childhood so children could bring fame and name for their states and their country.
Govinda, who is considered instrumental in bringing back family drama and comedy in the Hindi movies following its brief decline due to soaring popularity of television shows filled with social melodrama, became a Member of Parliament on a Congress ticket when he defeated Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ram Naik in 2004. However, as a politician he bombed and took retirement from politics for good in 2008 in the hope of reviving his movie career.
While acting in a number of films since 2008, including some in languages other than Hindi, Govinda's success on the silver screen remains grim to moderate.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
