Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders, at the meeting of its state and central working committees in Patna on Tuesday, jointly resolved to authorize party President Lalu Prasad Yadav to make a final decision on the names of the candidates for the one Lok Sabha seat and two Assembly seats where special elections are to be held shortly.

The meeting was held at former Chief Minister Rabri Devi's residence on 10 Circular Road in the absence of the party chief Lalu Prasad Yadav who continues to run the party from inside his jail cell in Ranchi where he remains incarcerated following his conviction in an offshoot of the multi-crore rupees fodder scam.

Making claim on all three seats, much to the disappointment of Congress, an ally, RJD leaders said they will field their candidates in the Araria Parliamentary seat while also fielding RJD candidates from Bhabhua and Jehanabad Assembly seats.

"We are not sharing seat with anyone at this time," said Shivanand Tiwari.

Talking to the reporters, Tiwari said that Lalu Prasad Yadav was unanimously chosen to decide the names of the candidate.

"We are confident that all three seats our candidates would win by substantial margin," Tiwari said.

The first meeting was presided over by Awadh Bihari Chowdhary and the second meeting was chaired by none other than Yadav's wife and former Bihar Chief Minister Mrs. Rabri Devi.

Besides Tiwari, those present at the meeting included Lalu's son Tej Pratap Yadav, Ramchandra Purvey, Abdul Bari Siddiqui, Ilyas Hussain, Jagadanand Singh, M A Fatmi, Jaya Prakash Narayan Yadav, Kanti Singh, Alok Mehta, Bhola Yadav, Surendra Prasad Yadav, and many others.

Sources in the party said that expelled Janata Dal – U leader Sarfaraz Alam who recently joined the RJD would be given the ticket from Araria, his former seat and the seat of his late father Mohammed Taslimuddin.

Former legislator Mundrika Singh Yadav's son Suday Singh Yadav is likely to get the ticket for Jehanabad seat and former legislator Ramchandra Yadav could be asked to contest for the vacant seat in Bhabhua.
