Raid on Gitanjali Gems in Patna in the Fallout of Nirav Modi Scandal

Patna: Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials in Patna on Saturday carried out raid at the Gitanjali Gems located within the Maharaja Kameshwar Complex on Fraser Road and seized precious gems and jewelries worth over Rs. 2.7 crore.

The raid was conducted in connection with the Rs. 11,400 crore scam involving fraudulent withdrawal from the Mumbai branch of the Punjab National Bank by Gitanjali chain owner Nirav Modi who is on run after the crime came into light a few days ago.

Officials said ED sleuths seized diamond jewelries worth Rs. 2.7 crore from the shop. The raid began at 6:30 pm on Friday and went on until late Saturday morning.

Authorities also interrogated the owner of the shop (Gitanjali Gems are a franchise) Vijay Singh and three other officials of the shop, all of them were said to be cooperating with the investigation.

Reports said simultaneous raids were carried out in Gitanjali Gems showroom in Dhanbad, Jaipur, and Durgapur.
