Patna: Much to the chagrin of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) legislators, led by party state President Ramchandra Purvey, created ruckus at Gyan Bhawan in Patna where Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and legislators from all other states had gathered to participate in the 6th India Field Regional Commonwealth Parliamentary Union Conference.
RJD leaders who were present on the occasion, took Modi's statement as a slight against their leader Lalu Prasad Yadav who is currently serving time behind bars after being convicted in a case connected with the fodder scam last December.
Chanting anti-NDA slogans, the RJD leaders led by party state President Ramchandra Purvey and former MLC Tanveer Hassan disrupted the proceedings demanding removal of Sushil Kumar Modi from the premises for insulting their party President.
Despite repeated request by Bihar Assembly Speaker Vijay Kumar Chowdhary to maintain decorum in the hall, the RJD leaders continued to shout before walking out of the premises as a sign of boycott of the event.
Visibly angered by the boorish behavior of the RJD legislators, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan scolded them saying such behavior gave bad name to a great state like Bihar.
"This is not your regular session of Vidhan Sabha. If you are not interested in listening to what others have to say, you are free to leave. We are here as your guests so treat us as your guests," she said.
BJP leaders denied mentioning the name of Lalu Prasad Yadav and accused the RJD of coming to the conference with the sole intention of disrupting a national event to embarrass the NDA government.
"Ironically, they did not embarrass the Bihar government led by Nitish Kumar and instead embarrass themselves by showing the true color of their party," senior BJP leader Chhedi Paswan said.
Disgruntled Congress leader and former Congress state President Ashok Kumar Chowdhary also echoed the sentiment of Paswan saying RJD's conduct was both offensive and embarrassing.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
