Patna: Ahead of the next year's Lok Sabha polls, Central Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) leader Ram Vilas Paswan, at a press conference in Patna on Sunday, said that the government would start providing food items to the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Backward, Extreme Backward caste students living in hostels at a rate comparable to the Below Poverty Level (BPL) prices.

Paswan, whose politics, like Uttar Pradesh's Mayawati and Bihar's Jitan Ram Manjhi, is largely influenced by caste factors, said that the sooner the state government sends him a list of backward and Dalit students living in hostels across Bihar, the sooner they would start getting 15 kilogram of food items at the BPL rate per month.

Continuing to woo the extreme backward vote bank, Paswan said that the Center had formed a committee to provide reservation to them on the basis of recommendations made in the Mandal Commission.

"This report is expected to come within the next three months after which we will follow up on its implementation," he said.

The LJP leader further said that his party workers would soon go to Uttar Pradesh and 'expose' Mayawati of her 'fake SC/ST' credentials.

Family members including his son and MP Chirag Paswan, brother Pashupati Kuamr Paras, and a number of other LJP leaders were present at the press conference.
