Patna: Though billed as a rally to promote communal harmony particularly in the nation, Maulana Mohammed Wali Rahmani, the Imarat-e-Sharia cleric, at a massive rally at Patna's Gandhi Maidan on Sunday declared war on the NDA government at the Center saying under the current administration, the nation and Islam was under assault and unless people of India rose against it, things would get only worse in the coming days.

{gallery}newsimages2018/apr/041518{/gallery}"The Imarat-e-Sharia and the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) is aware of the nefarious designs of the central government that has passed the 'Teen Talaq' Law despite protest from all quarters. We are also carefully monitoring the dwindling law and order situation in the country and increased assault on Islam and the Indian Constitution. We are asking people to fight against the forces who are determined to create hatred between Hindus and Muslims for political reasons" Rahmani said at the 'Deen Bachao, Desh Bachao' rally at the jam-packed Gandhi Maidan.

Taking aim at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Rahmani said that he waited patiently for the last four years hoping the saffron party will learn to govern on the principles laid in the Indian constitution but it was abundantly clear that it was determined to shred the constitution and continue to destroy the Muslim Personal Law.

"We have to alert our own people and fellow countrymen that our nation, and Islam, is not safe under the current administration," he said.

Maulana Majfooz Rahmani, taking shots at the NDA government, said that people of Araria, Gorakhpur, and Phoolpur had already 'thrice divorced' the NDA and people of India will do the same thing in the 2019 Parliamentary elections.

Muslim Board leader Abu Talib Rahmani, in his speech, lambasted the Narendra Modi government at the Center saying despite more than 5 lakh Muslim women of India submitting their signature to express their dissent with the Three Talaq bill, the government remained unimpressed and went ahead with the controversial bill.

"We have to save our 'Deen' (religion) and the nation," he said.

Anissur Rahman Qazmi of the Phulwari Sharif Imarat-e-Sharia, however, urged people not to see today's rally as a political one despite its heavy political overtone in all the speeches.

Rebel Janata Dal – U leader and former Bihar Assembly Speaker Uday Narayan Chowdhary and senior Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Abdul Bari Siddiqui were also present at the rally.

Meanwhile, security at the Gandhi Maidan was ginned up with dozens of security cameras put in place for today's rally as more than 5000 security guards kept an eye on all activities from strategic locations. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manu Maharaj, 300 District Magistrates, and 250 police officials along with several fire trucks and ambulances were also present at the rally.
