Patna: Streets of Patna continued to remain a death trap due to rash truck and bus drivers as a 21-year old girl was hit and dragged to her death by a speeding truck near Dashratha on New Bypass Road under Gardanibagh police station on Thursday afternoon.
The tragic incident took place around 12:15 pm when Priti Kumari, an NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology) student, was going for shopping on her scooter. As reported, as she tried to change the lane near Dashratha, a speeding truck struck her from behind and instead of stopping immediately, it dragged her body with the truck for nearly 60 feet killing her on the spot.
The driver and his assistant then abandoned the truck and escaped before a crowd gathered around the victim's body. She was taken to a nearby private hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.
An angry mob then set the truck on fire and blocked the road for hours demanding justice for the victim's family and immediate arrest of the driver. Senior police officials arrived at the scene and after much persuasion, they were able to clear the road for traffic.
A third-year student at the NIFT and a resident of Sai Chak under Beur police station in Patna, Priti was the daughter of Vinod Khalifa, an Excise inspector posted in Nawada.
The victim was the middle daughter of her parents with one sister elder than her, named Priyanka, and the other one younger than her named Reeya. She also has a brother named Aman.
NIFT officials described Preeti as a bright and hard-working student.
Authorities are attempting to identify the owner and driver of the truck.
It may be recalled that in an eerily similar incident, a college girl named Aditi Priya died near Aneesabad Roundabout when her scooter was hit by a bus on January 11 earlier this year.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
