Patna: While the district administration in Patna was busy flagging off a rally to launch road safety awareness week on Monday, a speeding bus on Exhibition Road hit a 17-year old boy on scooter from behind killing him on the spot.

The tragedy comes only three days after a truck mowed down a 21-year old girl in Patna under Gardanibagh police station.

The incident occurred around 6:00 am when Gautam Kumar, the son of Lallu Kumar and a resident of Ananda Apartments on Rajendra Path under Gandhi Maidan police station, left his home to catch an auto-rickshaw as he did every day to go to school. As he waited for an auto-rickshaw, his friend Yash Agrawal who was going somewhere on his scooter, offered him a ride to his school.

As the luck would be, Yash's scooter got stuck in a ditch on Exhibition Road. The two were then struggling to get the scooter out when a bus coming from Ranchi to Patna on its way to the Gandhi Maidan bus stand hit the boys on the road.

While Gautam died on the spot, Yash received serious injuries and was rushed to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) in critical condition.

The bus driver, instead of stopping, kept going towards the bus stand and once it was there, the driver and his assistant abandoned the vehicle and disappeared.

Authorities have seized the bus and are in the process of identifying its owner and the driver.
