Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar kicked off a 3-day 'Vijayotsava 2018' festival to mark the 160th birth anniversary of 1857 Sepoy Mutiny hero Kunwar Singh at the Kunwar Singh Azadi Park, formerly known as the Harding Park, in Patna on Monday.

{gallery}newsimages2018/apr/042318_1{/gallery}The event began with the unveiling of Singh's life-size bronze statue at the park that until just a few days ago stood a few hundred yards at the R-Block roundabout.

Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, PHED Minister Vinod Narayan Jha, Road Construction Minister Nand Kishore Yadav, Janata Dal – U legislators Shyam Rajak and Sanjay Kumar Singh were among may who paid rich tributes to the hero of the Indian Independence Struggle against the British.

Many other events were also organized by the state department including the opening of clay murals depicting the heroism of Veer Kunwar Singh within the park, a dazzling laser show and a lavish cultural program at the S K Memorial Hall where artists, including Padma Shri recipient folk singer Malini Awasthi, wowed the audience with their art for hours.

The festival is to end on April 25.
