Mangal Pandey Administered Oath of Office for Bihar Legislative Council

Patna: Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey who was unable to take the oath of office of the Bihar Legislative Council two weeks ago on May 7 on account of his preoccupation with the Karnataka state elections, was sworn-in in Patna on Monday in the presence of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi and others.

Bihar Legislative Council Chairperson Haroon Rashid administered the oath of secrecy thus filling all 75 seats in the upper house.

As reported, all 11 candidates for the Bihar Legislative Council, including Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, former Chief Minister Mrs. Rabri Devi, BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, Sanjay Paswan (BJP), Mangal Pandey (BJP), Khalid Anwar and Ram Ishwar Mahto (Janata Dal – U), Ram Chandra Purvey, Syed Khurshid Mohammed Mohsin (RJD), Prem Chandra Mishra (Congress), and Santosh Kumar Suman (Hindustani Awam Morcha) were elected unopposed on May 7.

With the swearing-in of Mangal Pandey, the number of legislators now stand at -

  • JD-U – 32
  • BJP – 22
  • RJD – 9
  • Congress – 3
  • CPI – 2
  • LJP – 2
  • HAM – 1
  • RLSP – 1
  • Independent – 3.
