Patna: Congress leaders from Bihar, including acting President Kaukab Qadri, met with party national president Rahul Gandhi at his residence in Delhi on Monday to discuss issues related to Bihar and to find out the name of the person who would be succeeding Qadri as the new president of the Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC).
"In the coming days, I will announce the name of the new president in Bihar who will be responsible for organizing party events and planning strategies for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. With proper planning and with the help of our allies including the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), the Grand Alliance in Bihar could win all 40 seats in the state," Gandhi said after holding one-on-one meeting with nearly a dozen leaders from Bihar.
As recalled, following the unceremonious removal of former BPCC president Ashok Kumar Chowdhary who was accused of indulging in anti-party activities last year when Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was planning to walk out of the Grand Alliance, the post had been lying vacant until Qadri was appointed as acting president to fill the post.
Qadri, however, besides organizing a few protest rallies and celebration parties at the Sadaqat Ashram, like when Gandhi was elected the Congress national president, is seen as an unsuccessful leader who has failed to energize the base in Bihar.
"A new president will be announced very soon," Shakti Singh Gohil, the party Bihar in-charge who was also at the Monday meeting with Gandhi, said.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
