Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Shahnawaz Alam who was elected from the much-hyped Jokihat seat in Bihar in the recently-held Assembly by-polls, took the oath of the office at Bihar Assembly on Wednesday.

Assembly Speaker and Janata Dal – U leader Vijay Kumar Chowdhary administered the oath of secrecy to Alam.

As recalled, Alam defeated his nearest rival and JD-U candidate Murshid Alam by an impressive margin of over 41,000 votes in a highly Muslim-dominated constituency.

Shahnawaz Alam is the brother of Araria MP Sarfaraz Alam and the son of late RJD MP Mohammed Taslimuddin.

Former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Tejaswi Yadav had dubbed Alam's victory as the victory of 'Laluwaad (Lalu's doctrine of social justice) over opportunism'.
