Patna: Just days after holding a one-on-one meeting with party President Rahul Gandhi, Congress leaders in Bihar at a meeting held at Sadaqat Ashram in Patna, supported the state's demand for special economic status saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi went back on his words and promises that he made while campaigning in Bihar during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
Shakti Singh Gohil, All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary and in-charge of Bihar affairs, said that Congress supported Nitish Kumar's demand for special status and it was pained by the way the Chief Minister was snubbed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Niti Ayog meeting held a couple of days ago in Delhi.
"Nitish Kumar raised the demand for Special Status during the Niti Ayog meeting in the presence of the Prime Minister but the PM just ignored it as if he did not even hear what the Bihar Chief Minister had asked. It has been four years since he became the Prime Minister and he still continues to play with the future of Bihar. If voted into power, we will seriously consider giving special status to the stat," Gohil, stopping short of making a commitment on the special status, said.
Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) acting President Kaukab Qadri, Sadanand Singh, and other senior party leaders were also present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, despite promises to install a new BPCC president in a matter of days by party president Rahul Gandhi, leaders in Bihar were still in dark regarding the identification of the new state chief.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
