Patna: Authorities in Patna were conflicted on Wednesday whether the large explosion in a house under Bihta police station that left at least two persons injured were caused by illegal manufacturing of fireworks or it occurred while manufacturing crude bombs by unsavory characters.

As reported, the explosions occurred in Tara Nagar under Bihta police station around 9:45 am. The blast was so strong that it could be heard as far as a mile from the place of explosion. It was also strong enough to damage several under-construction houses in the region, police said.

Injured were identified as Pappu Mian, Sonu Mian, and Pappu's wife Soni.

Police arrested Pappu, his wife and two others and sent them to a nearby referral hospital under police custody for treatment of burn injuries. Sonu, however, despite being hurt, managed to escape, City Superintendent of Police (SP) Ravindra Kumar said.

Police found materials, including a large amount of gun powder, used in manufacturing fireworks and also in making crude bombs.

While the cause of explosion remains under investigation, police said it appeared a container filled with gun powder somehow caught fire causing the explosion.

A police team searched the surrounding area for crude bombs but besides the raw materials, it did not find any finished bomb.
