Patna: Speaking at a press conference in Patna on Wednesday, Deputy Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushil Kumar Modi reiterated his party's stand on reservation saying the BJP would never allow reservation to be repealed despite rumors of such fake news spread by those in Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress Party.

"BJP, under no circumstance, will allow reservation to end. It is also gearing up to introduce reservation for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) in promotion in government offices. The Narendra Modi government in 2016 took steps to expand the existing law that deals with crimes against SC/ST adding 25 more items in the list increasing it from 22 to 47," the BJP leader said.

With drums of the Lok Sabha elections growing louder by the day, the BJP is making sure it is not misrepresented on the issue of reservation, a hot wedge issue that invariably influences the outcome of any election in Bihar and other parts of the country.

Modi further said that the party acted swiftly to opposed a Supreme Court decision that introduced anticipatory bail in discrimination case against SC/ST while also making it mandatory for the police officers to first check the legitimacy of the complaint before filing an FIR or arresting the accused.

"The BJP challenged the Supreme Court within 10 days of its decision and is willing to go as far as to pass a new law that would essentially override the court's diktat to protect the interests of the SC/ST," the Deputy Chief Minister said.

Those who also spoke on the occasion included BJP state President Nityanand Rai, Prem Kumar, Subodh Paswan, Nand Kishore Yadav, Mangal Pandey, Vijay Sonkar Shastri, Pramod Chandravanshi, and Shivesh Ram.
