Nishad Caste will be Included in SC Category; Says LJP Leader

Patna: Animal Husbandry and Fishery Resources Minister Pashupati Kumar Paras, speaking at the 'Machhuara Diwas' at Adhiweshan Bhawan in Patna on Tuesday, said that as soon as the Fishermen were accorded the status of Scheduled Caste, they will start getting 90% grant in pisciculture.

Proposal to include the fishermen in the Scheduled Caste category has already been sent to the Center, the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) leader said.

Praising the Nitish administration in Bihar, Paras said that the state government was committed to dealing with the issues faced by the fishermen and had taken a number of initiatives to improve their situation while also improving productivity in the sector.

"Production has gone up several folds in the last few years and soon Bihar will be exporting fish to other states," he said.

Consumer Protection Minister Madan Sahni also spoke highly of the Nitish administration saying the government had introduced several schemes that should directly benefit the Nishad community in Bihar. He also favored using all ponds grabbed by temple committees and priests and use them for fish farming to further increase productivity.

Others to speak on the occasion included Cooperative Minister Rana Randhir Singh, Backward and Extreme Backward Welfare Minister Braj Kishore Bind, and department Principal Secretary N Vijayalaxmi.
