Patna: Supporters of Pappu Yadav in Fatuha on Thursday blocked roads and burnt tires while clashing with the police that led to the injuries of at least five cops who were rushed to hospitals in Patna for treatment.
As reported, workers of the Jan Adhikar Party (JAP), Madhepura MP Pappu Yadav's political outfit, were protesting against the murder of six-year old Abhimanyu Kumar in the hostel of Shefali International School when things got out of hand.
When the police tried to disperse the crowd, the mob become belligerent and attacked the cops with stones and other hard objects.
Five policemen were injured in the incident with one having several cuts on his head and other parts of his body. The unruly crowd also damaged several cars and threatened to burn down the shops if they were not closed immediately.
Protestors were alleging the police was not focusing on the case and was in fact trying to protect the alleged culprit, a girl living in the same hostel.
The murder took place on the night of July 8. Police say the girl in custody whose name has not been released due to her age strangled the boy to death.
A special investigative team has been formed to probe the case.
Police said the girl is already in custody and has been kept in a remand home. Authorities are searching for two men – a school security guard and a man identified as Lucky Singh believed to be part of the school management.
