Patna: In an attempt to promote local art and culture and to publicize 'Brand Bihar' in other states, trains like Rajdhani Express and Sampark Kranti Express originating from Bihar would be decorated with distinctive Madhubani paintings drawn by some of the finest artists of the state.

Railway officials in Patna said initially 22 coaches of Rajdhani Express, both inside and outside, will be decorated with colorful Madhubani art giving the passengers an authentic feel of Bihar.

Eventually, over 100 coaches of Rajdhani Express, Sampark Kranti Express, Jansadharan Express and other fast passenger trains would adorn similar paintings that usually depict scenes from Hindu mythology and images from rural Bihar, Danapur Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Ranjan Thakur said.

The unique project is expected to cost nearly Rs. 1 lakh each coach, he said.

The project was first launched by the railway employees of Madhubani railway station in North Bihar when local artists decorated the entire station with iconic paintings. The idea soon caught up in other railway stations in Bihar including Patna Junction and Rajendra Nagar Terminal in Patna that already showcase large, colorful Mithila and Madhubani paintings at many of their platforms.
