Patna: About a dozen huts were gutted in a fire that spread in a slum behind the ITI College in Digha on Saturday destroying all belongings of the residents and threatening other establishments in the area.

The fire, purportedly started by a faulty electrical circuit, started in one of the huts around 3:00 pm. Soon the fire spread in about a dozen adjacent huts while threatening to take other nearby buildings in its scope. To avoid any untoward incident, trains passing by on the track behind the slums had to be temporarily stopped until the situation was finally brought under control.

Residents and neighbors first try to douse the fire on their own but the blaze was too strong to be contained forcing the people to call the professional fire fighters.

Though no one was said to be hurt in the fire, nearly 50 people were rendered homeless and where left with nowhere to go.

Officials were making arrangement for a temporary shelter for the victims, it was learnt.
